[私がこの動画をお薦めする理由]

この動画は、アメリカの独立宣言についてのレクチャーです。
多くの人と同じように、私も教科書レベルの知識はもっていたのですが、今回この動画を見てさらに深い知識を得ることができて面白かったです。特に、独立宣言を起草した一人であるジェファソンは当時33歳と、議会の中でも三番目に若かったにもかかわらず文才を認められていたため委員会に選ばれたというのを知り、能力を重視するアメリカの気質のようなものは初めからあったのかもしれないと思いました。

[印象に残った英語表現]

the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God

独立宣言冒頭の表現なのですが、この手の表現は英語話者でないと正確なニュアンスはわからないのだろうと思いました。この表現に対する説明がWhat they’re saying right there is that the laws of nature and the fact that nature’ s God created us all equally means that one set of people don’t have to be subservient to or occupied by or colonies of another set of people.とありました。
